The International Study Centre (ISC) offers international students, including those who do not meet direct academic entry requirements, specialist preparation for both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at Heriot-Watt University. The Undergraduate Certificate - a specialist foundation course for international students - and the Pre-Masters programme are delivered by the ISC. Assured progression to your degree Joining the ISC guarantees that you will receive a conditional offer of a degree place at the University. The Undergraduate Certificate equates to the first year of a four-year Honours degree, and leads directly to the second year of an undergraduate programme. Health is an area of major growth and investment at Keele University. New
Schools of Medicine and Pharmacy started taking undergraduates in 2002 and
2006 respectively. Postgraduate education and training in these disciplines
is complemented by research activity that is focussed on clinical laboratory
and community medicine within the Institutes of Science & Technology in
Medicine and Primary Care & Health Sciences. The Faculty of Health is
based in new custom-built accommodation on the University campus and at
the nearby teaching hospital.
Keele's commitment to inter-disciplinarily is reflected by inter-professional health education at undergraduate level and research collaboration with health-related academic groups in the Faculty of Humanities. Collaboration also extends to companies on the University's Science Park where around half of the current 40 businesses are related to biomedical R&D and healthcare. |

The Faculty was newly formed in 2004 and encompasses five Schools and four Research Institutes. The largest faculty in the University, it has over 350 academics, 95 members of administrative and technical staff, around 6,400 undergraduates and 1,650 postgraduates. The majority of disciplines in the Faculty were awarded either 5 or 5* in the 2001 RAE. Teaching quality assessments across the subjects offered within the faculty scored, on average, 23-24 out of 24.

The Foundation Diploma is a unique advanced foundation course for students with top High School graduation grades. The course offers an intensive, direct path to the second-year of an undergraduate degree at the University.
The Foundation Diploma is a rigorous and academically demanding four-term programme of academic subjects, study skills and English language training designed specifically to provide international students with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed on a degree at Keele University.
Keele's undergraduate degrees are 3 years in length, so Foundation Diploma students need only complete 2 more years of study before graduating, saving both time and tuition fees.

International Diploma

University-style teaching
The International Foundation Year is approved by The University of Leicester and taught by Study Group's undergraduate preparation specialists. You will be introduced to the style of teaching that you will experience when you progress onto your degree. Teaching is in tutorials, seminar style classes and larger group lectures.
Assessment
You will be assessed regularly throughout the course. This will ensure that your progress is on track to achieve the standard required for progression onto your chosen degree. Your development is monitored through continuous coursework and specific assessments at the end of each term or module. You will also be required to complete a series of presentations and extended essays as part of your overall assessment.

The International Study Centre
The University of Stirling International Study Centre (ISC) delivers the Undergraduate Certificate – a specialist foundation course for international students which replaces the first year of Stirling's four-year Honours degree and so leads directly to the second year of an undergraduate programme – and a Pre-Masters course.
At the heart of the University campus
The ISC is based in a modern, purpose-built facility on the University campus. You will be part of the University from the day you start your course.
Direct progression to the second year of your degree
Joining the International Study Centre guarantees that you will receive a conditional offer of a degree place at the University. On successful completion of the course and having met the required entry standards, you will proceed directly to your preferred degree programme.
Access to University facilities
As well as benefiting from specific resources for use by ISC students, you will have access to a range of University facilities including IT services, the University library and the Students' Association.

Direct access to Second Year Degree Study for International Students
The Undergraduate Certificate foundation course has been carefully developed to fully qualify international students to meet the challenges of degree-level study at the University. It is a rigorous and intensive course of academic subjects, study skills and English language training.
Study Structure
The Undergraduate Certificate is modular in structure. You can choose modules from three routes:
Business and Arts
Sciences
Computing
All students take core modules in English, mathematics, study skills, and British Culture and Society. These are supplemented by elective modules, which you can choose according to the academic areas of your chosen degree programme.
Progression from the Undergraduate Certificate
Upon completion of the Undergraduate Certificate, provided you have met the required entry standard, you will progress onto your degree at the University of Stirling that autumn.

First Year Degree Entry Progression Route
The Undergraduate Certificate has been designed to allow second year degree entry in specific subject areas. As this course provides excellent general academic preparation for university study, you will also be eligible to apply for entry into the first year of any of the University of Stirling's other undergraduate degree programmes. The University offers almost 300 degrees, in a wide range of subjects.
Pre-Masters
About the Pre-Masters at the University of Stirling
For a Masters degree at the
University of Stirling you will need:
# a range of academic and learning skills which you may not have experienced in your home country
# the ability to adapt to a new cultural environment and thrive academically
# he right academic qualification and substantial understanding of the subject
# the ability to use English in the academic environment to a high standard
If you do not meet the direct entry requirements for a Masters degree, or want to refresh your knowledge, this Pre-Masters course is for you.
Specialist preparation
The Pre-Masters is a tailor made two- or three-term programme of academic subjects, study skills and English language training. See the module descriptions for details of what you will learn on the course. Designed specifically to meet the needs of international students, it will prepare you fully for Masters study at the University.
Progression to your Masters degree
Joining the Pre-Masters guarantees you will receive a conditional offer of a place on a choice of Masters degrees at the University. Once you have successfully completed the course and have met the entry standards, you’ll proceed directly to your preferred Masters programme.
Flexible entry
You can begin the three-term Pre-Masters in either September or January, or the two-term Pre-Masters in either January or April. All start dates prepare you for progression onto your chosen Masters in the following September.
