The fashion industry
![]() |
The fashion industry is growing rapidly and we believe that more and more international students, coming especially from emerging markets, will study abroad in Europe and in the USA for fashion related education Our aim working with agents is to reinforce existing core business courses ranging from undergraduate to postagraduate programs covering all aspects of Fashion (fashion design, footwear design, patternmaking, fashion marketing, luxury management etc). At the same time, we are willing to create new programmes for international students in line with the needs of the market: mainly short specialized courses, but also tailor-made and customized programmes. The main challenge we are facing is the difficulty of accessing high quality students through the traditional agent-relationship models. For this reason, we are very careful in selecting our representatives. We give the preference to recruitment agencies who are either devoted to promote primarily fashion related programmes or who maintain close links with local companies, government institutions and educational institutions. |
Polimoda is considered as one of the top Italian private universities specializing in the fashion sector. In a field that is continuously drawing upon emerging talent and renewing its creative energies, we offer anyone interested in entering the world of fashion the possibility to do so by offering high-quality professional training ranging from preparation/undergraduate to postgraduate studies and summer courses.
Why choose Polimoda?
1) LINK WITH INDUSTRY: Polimoda has two Italian fashion emperors to inspire
it. The university's president is Ferruccio Ferragamo and the President of
Polimoda Ltd, the commercial wing of the business, is Santo Versace, of
Italy's most famous couture house. In addition, all of our teachers are
professionals working in the fashion sector.
2) EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES: Both fashion design and fashion marketing
students are required to think "out of the box", as interacting with other
industries and disciplines is crucial for creative growth and gaining
confidence. Thanks to a continuous collaboration with the fashion industry,
Polimoda prepares its students in becoming professionals that are able to
immediately enter the fashion market in a stable career. As a result, an
astounding 87% of Polimoda graduates find a job in six months after leaving
the school, 91% in the most important fashion companies such as Armani,
Benetton, Hugo Boss, Dolce&Gabbana, Max Mara, Trussardi, Valentino, Nike,
Prada, Krizia, Kenzo and Gucci, to name but a few.
3) LOCATION: If Milan is the current capital of Italian fashion, then
Florence is its historical heart. As a centre for the production of quality
knitwear, textiles, shoes and leather goods, Florence is a great location
for a fashion institute. Unlike other schools which see a need to open
branches outside Italy, Polimoda is heavily involved in bringing in more
international talents to Florence.
4) INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENT: About 65% of Polimoda students are Italian,
while the remaining 35% come from other European countries but also Asia,
USA, Russia or South America. Meanwhile, around 100 students from New York
Fashion Institute of Technology take a two semester course on the Florence
campus every year.
Polimoda is always attentive to the evolutions taking place in the fashion market in order to understand what professional figures are most requested by companies, and to sense where they should strategically “be” to represent Italian professionalism in the training field. Polimoda can count on its international company partners such as H. Stoll GmbH&Co (Germany), Shima Seiki (Japan), Sildorex-Lurex (France) and international companies like La Perla, Gucci, Ferragamo, Tod’s. These privileged and direct relationships are a winning factor for the institute as they distinguish it from any other training organization, and not only in Italy, it is also an attractive option for many young people from abroad that can immediately experiment work experience in a world famous company at the end of their course.

ALCE is a school that specialises in teaching the Italian language to overseas students. It was founded in 1999 with the simple goal of providing students with a comprehensive educational and cultural experience, within a friendly and encouraging environment.
ALCE is a school that specialises in teaching the Italian language to overseas students. It was founded in 1999 with the simple goal of providing students with a comprehensive educational and cultural experience, within a friendly and encouraging environment.
Each year we welcome students from all over the world and our wide range of italian courses is designed to meet their every need. Our teaching is sophisticated and uses multimedia technology, but one thing has and never will change and that is our insistence on the same high standards and the same warm welcome we gave when we started.
We work constantly to guarantee this and to maintain the quality on which our reputation is founded. By studying Italian in Italy you will learn the language far more effectively and quickly than you could at home. You will also have the chance to experience Italian lifestyle, make new friends from around the world, and develop your understanding of our increasingly inter-cultural world. ALCE brings all of these experiences together in educational programmes that are proven, effective and stimulating.
Italian Courses
Our Italian courses are designed for all foreigners wishing to approach our language and increase their knowledge of it for personal or professional reasons. The Italian Courses respect the methodology of ALCE which favours high quality and professional teaching in an informal environment. Teaching integrates the traditional methods for basic grammar and syntax, with an innovative use of audio, video and authentic materials.
But what really makes the difference is the teacher-student relationship.
There is nothing that can influence teaching more positively.
All of our teachers tailor their teaching as far as possible to the needs of each and every student. Correspondingly our classes are small, with a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 8 participants . The Italian Course is organised by level to respond to the different needs of the participants.
Why study Italian?
Every year half a million students attend
Italian language courses
outside Italy, in every country throughout the world. Why?
Italian
is a language
of culture. Speaking Italian means having access not only to an extremely
valuable literary heritage, essential to the history of Europe and to
extremely precious humanistic and scientific texts, but also to Italian
theatre, music, opera, cinema and television.
Italian
is a language
of study. Every year a number of students decide to attend our schools,
universities, academies and libraries.
Italian
is a language
of work. Managers, investors, technicians, artisans and workers get in touch
with Italy’s word of industry, craft and services, which crosses the borders
of our country.
Speaking Italian
will turn a visit to our country and its friendly and hospitable people, its
artistic cities and its beautiful nature into a real pleasure.
One to one General
This is the most personalised option – a class entirely taken as individual lessons. The programme is based completely on your individual needs and will adapt to take account your language development. Experience tells us that this type of course guarantees the very best of results and progress. Both the content and timing of this course can be adapted completely to suit the requirements of the student.
One to one Professional
Both the content and timing of the course can be organised to suit the student's professional needs: business, legal, architectural, scientific, commercial, etc
Two to one General
If two people are interested in taking lessons together the two-to-one option offers a great opportunity in both financial and educational terms, rapidly increasing communicative ability in Italian for everyday and academic use.
Two to one Professional
The same arrangement with the possibility to focus on specialist areas for professionals: business, legal, architectural, scientific, commercial, etc
Business Italian
Our Business Italian courses
last for 4 weeks. They consist of 6 hours of class per day, two of General
Italian and four of Business Italian and are ideal for those who need to
develop their Italian for business purposes. The course focuses on
contracts, telephone communication, commercial correspondence, as well as
general commercial and socio-economic Italian.
Minimum level: Intermediate.
Italian for Law
This course consists of 4
lessons in a Standard Language Course plus 2 private tutorials on Italian
for law, each day. The course is designed for those students who are already
experts in the field of law in their own language and who are interested in
the language of law in Italian for professional reasons or for study. The
program focuses on different areas of law, aiming
at providing students with the basic vocabulary and professional expressions
that are most often used. Since it is held that a dry presentation of
vocabulary on the subject matter would be of little practical use, each of
the fields will be covered through the analysis of "texts" that are
presented on video tapes and in written form. Through the study and
discussion of texts, the basic vocabulary of the specific topic is laid out.
For example, the vocabulary relating to Constitutional Law is presented
through readings from the Italian Constitution and from rulings of the
Constitutional Court, the vocabulary of Labor Law through readings from
national labor contracts, etc. After identifying the basic technical
vocabulary and expressions, the student is helped to assimilate them through
targeted exercises and discussions.
Since the law field is extremely broad and cannot be covered in a thorough manner in the few available lessons, students may begin the course by planning with the instructor a program with a narrower focus on the basis of their needs, with a concentration on only several topics. In particular, if a student needs to increase his expertise in a specific area for professional reasons, we recommend that he inform us before arriving in order to give the instructor sufficient time to prepare a specific program with selected texts. For example, if a student works in a law office that has contractual dealings with Italian companies, the course may focus on Italian-type contracts and laws on private contracting.
Program example:
Constitutional Law
·
reading of
excerpts from the Italian Constitution, for example "Rights and duties of
citizens: civil relations"
exercises on oral and written comprehension from text readings
· analysis and deeper understanding of a text: summary, paraphrase, translation, identification of areas of law vocabulary
· on the basis of the vocabulary identified, a general description of Italian Constitutional Law
· activities to stimulate oral and written production in important legal contex.
Italian Culture and Conversation Course
These courses explore
various aspects of Italian culture, with a particular focus on the spoken
language, and are designed for students who wish to learn more about the
history of the language, Italian literature and Italian dialects. Each

are an ideal extra to Intensive Group classes and you can attend for as many
weeks as you like.
Minimum level: Pre-intermediate.
Master Class, Over 50s
This is a course aimed at students over the age of 50. Lessons (which take place in small groups of 6 - 8 students) are designed for learning everyday Italian with a greater focus on spoken language than on grammar and written work. Teachers are aware of the specific needs of older students, of their different learning speeds, and their greater interest in the cultural aspects of Italian, such as customs, festivals, history and literature. The courses last for two weeks with 3 hours of General Italian a day and a specific programme of specially-designed activities and excursions for the over 50s. The course programme includes being picked up from Bolognam airport, a welcome drink, 15 lessons a week and a wide range of cultural activities for two days a week, including Italian cookery courses and wine testing sessions. The cost of the course includes entrance to all museums, an evening at the theatre, dinner with the teacher, and a day trip (Saturday). We are also happy to make reservations at hotels or “Agriturismo” farm accommodation for you.

The school is really easy to get to, whichever route you take. The school is situated in what was West Berlin, in one of the most beautiful districts, which also happens to be one of the liveliest quarters of the city - Schöneberg. Ideal connections to the public transportation network mean that all destinations are no more than a stone's throw away: IH Berlin PROLOG is just a couple of minutes away from the underground and local rail stations on Schöneberg's Hauptstraße. Our school extends over two floors and houses 22 light and spacious classrooms. The rooms can be fitted out with a TV, LCD projector, DVD and/or video player, PC and an interactive whiteboard as required.
We have carefully selected all of our teachers according to their academic and language abilities, as well as the way they relate to their students. The competence and experience of our German teachers is of particular importance: teaching qualifications are important, as is extensive experience teaching German as a foreign language at renowned schools and institutions. Many of our German teachers have already completed our Teacher Training programme.
In 2002 PROLOG was accepted as an affiliate of International House World Organisation. The main aims of this affiliation of over 130 language schools from more than 40 countries around the world is to improve the quality of language teaching through co-operation, exchange and the regular development and training of language teachers.

Schöneberg
is not just geographically the meeting point between the cool quarter
Kreuzberg and the chic residential area Wilmersdorf. With its stylish bars,
cafes and restaurants Schöneberg has become an exciting and varied area for
going-out. To get a feel for Schöneberg why not visit the weekend market at
Winterfeldplatz, probably Berlin's best-know weekend market? You'll find the
most delicious fruit and vegetables as well as the most beautiful flowers,
fine cheeses, interesting clothes, and household goods. Afterwards you can
meet friends in one of the many cafes nearby.
Not far from there, in Schöneberg's Town Hall, JFK made his famous 1963 "Ich bin ein Berliner" speech, directed at the East Berliners trapped behind the Berlin Wall. Right up until unification, this was the seat of government for West Berlin and even today you can still here the Freiheitsglocke (Freedom Bell) ringing everyday at noon. The cemetery in Stubenrauchstraße is the final resting place for perhaps the most famous Berliner of all time, Marlene Dietrich, who was born in Berlin in 1901 and died in 1992.
On Tauentzienstraße, the eastern continuation of Kurfürstendamm, you will find KaDeWe (Kaufhaus des Westens), the biggest department store on the European mainland and a paradise for shopping and browsing.
Short and sweet: PROLOG is located in one of the most interesting and diverse quarters of Berlin, very central, but nevertheless quiet!

The Islands offer a unique, two-in-one study trip; a Mediterranean holiday destination combined with excellent English tuition. The Maltese Islands are celebrated for their warm Mediterranean climate, crystal clear sea, beaches, splendid architecture, pretty villages, extensive countryside and friendly people. Mediterranean culture remains dominant; however, 150 years of British rule up until 1964, has left a lasting effect on the country and its language. English is an official language, people drive on the left and major daily newspapers are in English. Malta is a member of the European Union although the currency remains the Maltese lira until the end of 2007. The Euro will be adopted in January 2008. For more information, see our Malta Travel Guide and Practical Info sections.

All of our teachers are highly experienced and will design your course according to your language skills and requirements. They will also help you to find the most efficient study method for you.
