LOCATION

High Wycombe Town CentreHigh Wycombe
Situated approximately half way between London and Oxford, High Wycombe is the second largest town in Buckinghamshire. It’s not just an industrial centre, but also a market town, as shown by the busy stalls that crowd the high street three days a week – a tradition stretching right back to the 12th century.

About Uxbridge

Uxbridge Campus, 106 Oxford RoadUxbridge has excellent road and rail links with Central London. Uxbridge Campus is only about five minutes walk from Uxbridge underground station, and it usually takes less than forty-five minutes to reach all of London’s attractions. The world-class shopping, the globally acclaimed theatres, museums, concert halls and art galleries as well as the diverse nightlife need few words of introduction. What you may not know is that London is also bursting with free special events, festivals and attractions, so as a student you can take advantage of what the capital has to offer. About Uxbridge Town  With two large shopping centres, The Chimes and The Mall, Uxbridge is among the top ten shopping destinations in London. However it's sometimes easy to forget that Uxbridge itself has a surprisingly generous choice of shops, bars and restaurants. Situated right next to the big name stores are the historic Windsor Street and the Market House, which boast a number of independent shops to explore.

History

In 1989, the College became one of the UK's new independent Higher Education Corporations. At this time the College made a strategic commitment to become a polytechnic institute by 1992, en route to attaining university status. In 1992 it became a College of Brunel University. In March 1999, Buckinghamshire College was awarded University College status by the Government, in recognition of its high standards of teaching, training and research, and became Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College (BCUC). The university college had its own degree awarding powers and became the principal provider of higher education in the region. In June 2007, the institution was informed that it had met all the necessary criteria for the award of university title, and would become the new university in Buckinghamshire subject to Privy Council approval of a new name.

The new name, Buckinghamshire New University, was approved in October 2007. The approval of the name means that the institution is now officially a university, and marked a significant new chapter in the history of the University.

Undergraduate

Crowd Safety ManagementStudents Learning at BucksIt’s one of the most important decisions you’re ever likely to make.  That’s why we’re determined you should have all the information you need about the wide range of undergraduate courses we offer here at Bucks New University.
The options at the university college and our partner colleges are extensive.  Full-time and part-time HNCs and HNDs.  BA, BSc and LLB degrees.  And, of course, Work Based Foundation Degrees too. Some of the subjects are career-related – jewellery design, journalism, advertising or social work, for instance.  Others, such as fine art, sociology and film have more of a pure academic flavour.  Whatever subject you’re studying, however, you can rely on excellent facilities and strong links with relevant industry sectors.

HND/HNC stands for Higher National Diploma or Certificate. Usually two years long, it’s vocational (work-related). And if you choose to continue to study, you could join an undergraduate degree course for its final year to convert your HND into a BA or BSc degree.

Police Studies

Diplomas are pre-degree qualifications that generally last two years.

Foundation Degrees are ideal if you’ve got a specific job in mind.  Directly related to your industry sector, they take two years to complete. They’ll improve your career prospects whatever stage you’re at, and directly support the ambitions of the industries with whom we work. We are particularly strong in the areas of business, leisure and tourism, so if that’s what you’re interested in, give a Foundation Degree some thought.

BA stands for Bachelor of Arts undergraduate degree. A three-year course in a non-science subject, the grades are awarded from First Class, Second Class with upper and lower divisions, Third and Pass. The top three grades give you an Honours degree.

BSc stands for Bachelor of Science undergraduate degree. This is the same as the BA, but focusing on more science-orientated subjects.
LLB refers to Bachelor of Laws. This is a qualifying law degree (QLD), which means it meets the requirements of the Law Society and Bar Council for those who wish to become a solicitor or barrister.

Single Honours means that you only study one subject for your degree.

Joint Honours means you are studying two subjects to which you give equal importance.

Major/Minor means that you are studying two subjects that have differing importance. Often the first subject is weighted at 75 per cent of your final award.

Modules are what we call the different topics that make up our degrees, diplomas and HND/HNCs.  There are usually a number of core modules you have to study and then there are several that you can choose from depending on your interests. The modules won’t just teach you about your subject;

they will also develop your skills in learning, IT, communication, problem solving, teamwork and numeracy. All of which will be crucial in your career
