Foundation Studies Courses

All Foundation Studies lead to the Bath Spa University Award in Foundation Studies and directly into the appropriate undergraduate degree courses here at Bath Spa University. Our Certificate of Foundation Studies is widely accepted by other universities for undergraduate entry.

Foundation Studies in British Society and English Foundation Studies in Art & Design and English Foundation Studies in Music and English Foundation Studies in Business and English Foundation Studies in Tourism and English (subject to validation)

These courses prepare students for study at undergraduate level. Each course consists of three components: Language Skills, Academic Skills (for students taking Art & Design, the Academic Skills component is subject-specific), and one Specialist subject (see Table). Each of these components is given a minimum of 7 hours a week class time.Duration (for all courses): 2 semesters (September - February; February - June).

Entry Requirements:IELTS 5.5 or equivalent or completed Bath Spa University Foundation Course in General English. Students must have reached university entry level in their home country.

Pre-Masters Courses

A growing number of international students are taking MA, PGCE and MPhil/PhD programmes at Bath Spa University, attracted by our high academic standards, individual attention and individual English language support. This is intended to raise your level of English and to prepare you for postgraduate study in an English university. It also provides the opportunity to take one of your Master's level modules a year early. The course is normally of one-year duration. You will need IELTS 5.0 to enter plus admission to the Master's programme of your choice. Please see the individual course pages for general entry requirements to the Master's programmes. If you have an IELTS score of 5.5 or 6.0 you would be able to complete the course in less than one year (admission in January). By the end of the course you should have achieved an IELTS of 6.5. On achievement of this score your progress to the second (Master's) year is automatic.

The tuition fee for the Pre-Master's course is £6,880 for 2006/7.
