City of Norwich

The University of East Anglia is situated alongside the picturesque city of Norwich in the heart of East Anglia ’s most beautiful countryside. Norwich city centre is just four kms from the University campus and frequent buses run from the campus to the city centre.

Norwich is an historic city with many original medieval buildings, the most magnificent being the 11th century cathedral and the Norman castle, which overlooks the city. A major city with a busy, cosmopolitan atmosphere, Norwich is famed for its variety

of cultural entertainment including cinemas, theatres and a number of fascinating museums and art galleries. The city is home to a large student population drawn from many schools and colleges and has a young outlook and an affordable cost of living. The University’s international student community is widely recognised as contributing to the city and there are several established links such as the Norwich International Club, which offers an opportunity to meet local people in an informal setting. Norwich has plenty of street cafés and

international restaurants, offering a wide choice of food, from Indian, Chinese, vegetarian, Greek and Thai to Mexican, Spanish, Italian and English. At night, there are venues to suit all tastes, from traditional English pubs to modern bars and clubs. One of Britain ’s top ten shopping cities, Norwich features a unique blend of independent and specialist shops as well as all the major high street chains, supermarkets and two shopping centres. Norwich has England ’s largest open-air market, where fresh fruit and egetables can be bought six days a week.

Connections

There are frequent flights to Norwich International airport from Amsterdam , one of Europe ’s largest international hubs. The

airport is just 15 minutes from the University campus. Norwich has a fast and frequent train service to London which takes just under two hours, and good links to the rest of the UK . The bus and train network provides many opportunities for day trips in the picturesque East Anglian region.

East Anglia

This region is famous for its unspoilt countryside and waterways. There are many small villages and large stately homes to visit

as well as miles of riverside walks and cycle paths, which can be found only a short distance from the city. A survey found that the

region of East Anglia has the least crime, best health and amongst the highest employment rates in the country. Norwich is only 30km from the sea, and the Norfolk coastline is home to wildlife sanctuaries, small market towns and traditional villages.

The region around Norwich has much to offer including the Norfolk Broads, immediately east of the city, where a series of

rivers and lakes span the region. With miles of open countryside and rivers to explore it is easy to see why the area is a popular holiday destination for locals and tourists. The coast is just 20 minutes from Norwich with miles of  stunning sandy beaches and cliffs providing a great opportunity for a break.
