
The University of Sheffield
The University grew out of the Sheffield Medical School (founded in 1828), Firth College (1879) and the Sheffield Technical School (1884). These three institutions came together in 1897 to form the University College of Sheffield, which in turn became the University of Sheffield in 1905. The University of Sheffield proudly celebrated its 100th anniversary as a university in 2005.Today the University is home to 25,000 students from over 116 countries studying on cutting-edge degree courses. Its graduates are in demand around the world. The University has a long established reputation for academic excellence. It is ranked 8th in the UK, 18th in Europe and 65th in the world. 70 Academic Departments and Sections are grouped in the 7 Faculties (Architectural Studies, Arts, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Pure Science, Social Sciences).
The subjects/courses are as diverse as engineering, dentistry, biomedical science, computer science, architecture, information studies, politics and law. The University’s research partners include Boeing, Rolls Royce, Unilever, AstraZeneca, GSK, ICI, Slazenger, and many more well known companies.
Sheffield is in South Yorkshire, in the north of England. It is close to Leeds, Manchester, Nottingham and the Peak District.It is the greenest city in England, with 150 woodlands and 50 public parks. Crime statistics show it is also one of the UK's safest cities. Sheffield has excellent rail links to all major cities. You can be in Leeds or Manchester by train in about an hour, and London in under 2.5 hours.

The programme is academically challenging and builds on your prior studies and experience. The course provides integrated academic studies in science or engineering, advanced level English skills and high-level study skills. There are different entry points depending on your level of English proficiency.
